Most people who find me say some version of the same sentence. "Part of me wants this, but part of me is terrified." Part of you wants to rest, and part of you will not stop. Part of you wants closeness, and part of you slams the door the second it gets near. If that sounds familiar, you are not broken and you are not at war with yourself. You are carrying parts that have been working hard, for a long time, to keep you safe. That is the heart of parts work.

What parts work actually is

Parts work comes from a model called Internal Family Systems, or IFS. The idea is simple, even if the work goes deep. We all have different parts inside us. Not in a clinical, something-is-wrong way. In a human way. You have a part that pushes and performs. A part that worries. A part that goes quiet. A part that numbs out at the end of a hard day. None of them are the enemy. IFS says something I believe all the way down. There are no bad parts. Even the ones that cause you the most trouble, the anxiety spiral, the harsh inner critic, the urge to disappear, are trying to protect you from pain they learned about a long time ago. They took on their job in a moment when you needed them. They just never got the memo that the moment passed. Parts work is how we meet those parts with curiosity instead of fighting them. When a part feels seen instead of shut down, it can finally relax. That is when things start to shift.

Underneath the parts is you

Here is the piece that surprises people. Underneath every part, there is a you that was never damaged. IFS calls it the Self. I call it the wild within. It is calm, clear, and steady, and it does not need to be built or earned. It has been there the whole time, covered over by everything you had to do to survive. I am not here to fix you. You were never broken. My work is to help you get back to that steady center, so the parts do not have to run the show alone anymore.

What a session looks like

Parts work is not analysis from across a cold room. It is slower and more felt than that. We might start with what you are noticing in your body. A tightness in the chest. A pit in the stomach. We get curious about the part connected to that sensation. How old does it feel. What is it afraid would happen if it let go. What has it been carrying for you. I work in a way that is holistic, somatic, and trauma-informed, which means we go at the pace your nervous system can actually handle. No forcing. No reliving the worst thing to prove it happened. We build enough safety that the parts trust us to get close. This is the kind of depth work I do in individual therapy, and it is some of the most honest work two people can do together.

Parts work and anxiety

If you came here searching for help with anxiety, parts work speaks directly to that. Anxiety is almost always a part doing its job too well. It is the part scanning for danger, running the worst-case scenarios, keeping you three steps ahead so nothing catches you off guard. Telling that part to calm down never works. It only tries harder. In parts work we do the opposite. We turn toward the anxious part and ask what it is protecting. Nearly every time, there is something younger and more tender underneath it, something that once felt unsafe or unseen. When that younger part gets what it actually needed, the anxious part can finally stand down. It does not have to guard the gate forever. If anxiety is the main thing you are carrying, start with anxiety therapy in Mesa.

When parts work meets deeper medicine

For some people, parts that have been locked down for decades need more than talk to soften. That is where ketamine-assisted therapy can open a door. The medicine loosens the grip of the protective parts just enough to reach what is underneath, and the therapy is what makes the experience mean something. It is not an IV drip in a clinic. It is real psychotherapy, with parts work woven through it, held with intention. Not everyone needs that path, and that is okay. We find what fits you.

Who this is for

Parts work tends to land for people who feel like they are two or three people in one body. High-functioning on the outside, exhausted underneath. People who have done the reading, know their patterns, and still cannot think their way out. People who are tired of being at odds with themselves and ready to try meeting themselves instead. You do not need the right words for it. You do not need to have it figured out before you reach out.
